An Albuquerque-based company is receiving national recognition for its success and dedication to its customers, according to a press release.
Weil Construction Inc. has been named the 2018 National Small Business Prime Contractor of the Year by the U.S. Small Business Administration.
The SBA is a federal government agency created in 1953 dedicated to assisting and protecting the interests of small businesses.
Founded in 2005 by president and owner Chris Weil, the winning construction company’s clientele includes Air Force Research Laboratory, Kirtland Air Force Base, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Albuquerque District, Federal Aviation Administration and more, according to the release.
Weil and his company will be recognized at the national ceremony in Washington D.C. on April 30 during National Small Business Week. Weil was awarded the New Mexico SBA Entrepreneurial Success Award in 2017 for growing to over $10 million in revenue.
Aside from its Albuquerque headquarters, Weil Construction Inc. also has offices in Colorado Springs, Fort Worth and San Antonio. Weil told Business First last year that his company had $250 million worth of contract work in Texas.
Weil described his company then as a small contractor with around 40 employees. Weil said last year that workers with his company can make up to $32 an hour on projects thanks to federal wage requirements. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average wage for construction workers in the U.S. was around $18 an hour in 2016.
Construction employment in New Mexico grew by more than 8 percent between June 2016 and June 2017.
The U.S. Small Business Administration recently announced the winner of this year’s New Mexico Small Business Person of the Year. Jasper Riddle, president of Noisy Water Winery in Ruidoso, will also be recognized at the national ceremony in D.C. next month.
